[PowerTips] Mastering Mentions in Activity Feeds

In Dynamics 365, Posts are a valuable tool for sharing events or significant milestones on the timeline. They facilitate communication among team members, functioning much like an internal chat system. Additionally, Posts assist in presenting a chronological visualization of the activities associated with specific records such as contacts, leads, and opportunities, helping teams to stay informed about the progression of these items.

In group posts, it’s common to need to call attention to a particular individual (a user of Dynamics 365) or to a specific record like an account, sharing this detail with the rest of the group. Within Dynamics 365 Activity Feeds, this kind of reference is known as a “mention.” When a post includes a mention of a user, it can appear both on the individual’s record wall and on their personal “What’s New” wall in the Dynamics 365 apps. Posts that mention a record will show up on the wall of that particular record.

To incorporate a mention in a post through custom development, such as a plugin, workflow, or Power Automate, you should insert the following expression into the Text attribute:

@[Entity,ID,"Display String"]

This expression will create a link to the specified entity or user within your post.

  1. Entity: Use either the logical name or the entity type code to specify the record that you’re mentioning.
  2. ID: Enter the unique identifier for the mentioned record.
  3. Display String: Input the text that should appear in the post, usually the name of the record.

NOTE : There are no spaces following commas in this expression.
